Bright Futures Trenton will hold an event August 8th that is open to all students who attend public school in Grundy County. The Grundy County Back to School Event will be at various locations in Trenton.

Among the activities, backpacks and school supplies will be available for Trenton R-9 and Grundy County Head Start students in the Trenton High School Commons from 2 to 6 o’clock. Bright Futures Trenton Co-coordinator Lynn Griffin notes the location may be busy, especially when the doors first open. She asks attendees to be patient.

Supply distributions for other Grundy County schools include Laredo from noon to 3 o’clock and Spickard from 5:30 to 6:30. Griffin says Grundy County R-5 students who need school supplies and backpacks should contact Stacey Russell at srussell@grundyr5.k12.mo.us.

Pass the Pride will be in the THS Commons to share Bulldog apparel. Trenton Middle School Counselor Leslie Woodard says the activity allows clothing to be recycled.

Information stations will also be in the THS Commons from 2 to 6 o’clock for parents and students from Trenton R-9. Griffin says the stations will have school bus route information, the opportunity to pay for iPad use, online registration, and assistance for free and reduced-price meal rates.

Griffin says Bright Futures Trenton will be at the Trenton First Christian Church from 2 to 6 o’clock to help families from all county schools apply for the Food Pals program. The supplemental weekend food program for students is through Bright Futures Trenton.

Socks and underwear will be available at the First Christian Church Activity Center from 2 to 6 o’clock. Bright Futures Trenton Co-coordinator Terri Critten says each student will be offered three new pairs of underwear and three new pairs of socks.

Gym shoes will be available at the Trenton First Christian Church Activity Center from 2 to 6 o’clock. Griffin says Derek Hert is organizing the activity, and Bright Futures received help from Boy Scout Pack 23 with a Gym Shoe Dash at Rissler Elementary School. Boy Scout Troop 97, under the direction of Allen Saul, also collected gym shoes from Trenton Middle School students.

Woodard reports Shelby Roof-Ewald from the Grundy County Health Department contacted area agencies and organizations that support students. Representatives of multiple entities will have information booths at the First Christian Church Activity Center also from 2 to 6 o’clock.

Other activities are also planned August 8th in the afternoon and evening for the Bright Futures Trenton Grundy County Back to School Event.
