The state Department of Transportation is backing Missouri primary seat belt legislation.
The House Crime Prevention Committee heard testimony today (Monday) on the bill, which would allow Missouri law enforcement officers to enforce the seat belt law as a STAND-ALONE OFFENSE. MoDOT says this is about saving lives. The Missouri State Medical Association also testified for the bill. Deering GOP State Representative Andrew McDaniel spoke against the bill, saying it’s a freedom issue to him. He says motorists should have the freedom to not wear a seat belt.
