16-year-old dies, 13-year-old injured in ATV crash near Luray

On August 1, 2024, at approximately 4:25 p.m., a fatal ATV crash occurred on Route K, half a mile north of Luray, Missouri. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident involved a 2021 Can-Am ATV driven by a 16-year-old male from Luray, Missouri.

The crash happened as the ATV was traveling southbound on Route K. The vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway and struck several trees, causing both the driver and a 13-year-old male passenger to be ejected.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by Clark County Coroner Edwin Wilson at 5:43 p.m. The 13-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospital by Air Evac Helicopter.

Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing safety gear at the time of the crash. The ATV was totaled and removed by the owner.

Authorities from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, and Clark County Ambulance assisted at the scene.
