Woman struck by vehicle on Route OO near Milan dies in hospital

An incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle north of Milan, Missouri. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the accident took place just before 1:30 p.m. on Route OO, three miles north of Milan.

The victim, identified as 63-year-old Mary E. Baugher from Milan, was hit after she stepped into the path of a northbound 2011 Ford Expedition. The SUV was being driven by 18-year-old Johnathon M. Stanton, also from Milan.

Officials stated that Baugher had exited a parked vehicle just moments before the collision. She was subsequently transported by Sullivan County Ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia where she was later pronounced deceased shortly before 1 am in the early hours of Monday.

The SUV sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene by Littrell’s Towing. Authorities mentioned that Stanton was using a safety device at the time of the accident. No insurance was reported for the vehicle.

The scene was attended by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department and Milan first responders.
