KTTN/KGOZ News : Livingston County Jail reports more facility issues

Even with the majority of the detainees having been moved from the Livingston County Jail in Chillicothe, facility problems continue. Sheriff Steve Cox reports that "what appeared to be smoke" seen on jail cameras was actually "steam from a ruptured hot water pipe". This incident happened in an area of the jail that remained in use as a holding area when arrests are made and the detainees are waiting transport to the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail in Pattonsburg. |

KTTN/KGOZ News : Green Hills "Wellness Challenge" to begin later this month

The Sixth Annual Green Hills Wellness Challenge begins in January and will conclude on April 5th. Registration is January 10th and 11th during regular business hours at the Ketcham Community Center or the Grundy County Health Department (in Trenton). Participants must be at least 18 years old, or have a signed parental consent. |

The track and weights at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton will continue to have limited accessibility during the remainder of Holiday Hoops basketball games, which continue through Thursday, January 3rd. However, the cardio room near the front desk on the ground floor will continue to be open, even when games are taking place. |

The Penney High School girl's basketball team received a sparkling performance from senior guard Elsie Greenwood and a game-winning bank-shot from sophomore forward Morgan Prather on Friday night, with the Lady Hornets taking a 56-54 victory over previously unbeaten North Mercer in a Holiday Hoops girl's basketball game from the Ketcham Community Center, broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com. |

Automobile Accidents : Sunday morning accident kills Sumner woman

A Sumner woman was killed, and a Brunswick man was SERIOUSLY injured, when a pickup truck overturned off a Chariton County road early Sunday morning. Pronounced dead at the scene was the driver, 34-year old Jessica Diehl of Sumner. A passenger, 42-year old Charles Lewis of Brunswick, was flown to University Hospital in Columbia, with injuries described as SERIOUS by the Highway Patrol. |

KTTN/KGOZ News : Spike strips credited with helping to end Livingston County police chase

The Livingston County Sheriff's Department said a spike strip was successfully deployed on Wednesday night, on Highway 36 east of Chillicothe, to slow an alleged stolen vehicle. The vehicle was stopped just west of Chillicothe a 'short time' after the spike strips were used. Twenty-five year old Vincente Soto of Kirksville was taken into custody without further incident. |

November's unemployment rate for Grundy County has remained steady with the month before AND nearly the same as November 2011, but there are fewer people out of work when compared to the jobless report from twelve months earlier. The latest statistics from the state of Missouri show 296 unemployed in Grundy County out of a civilian labor force of more than 4,800. |

Oral historian Jim "Two Crows" Wallen will tell stories of people who died during the Civil War when Wallen presents a program on Tuesday, January 8th in Chillicothe. The presentation will be made during the quarterly meeting of the Grand River Historical Society at the Elks Club. The meeting begins with a pork loin dinner at 6:30. The cost of the meal is $7.00. The activities are open to the public. |

Trenton Police Chief Tommy Wright says a Mexican man has been charged in Grundy County with kidnapping and child enticement. In addition, Wright said the man, Felix Lopez Rivera, a 21-year old Mexican citizen from the Chicago, Illinois area, was charged in Livingston County with Statutory Rape and Sodomy, and he is on a detainer from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. Chief Wright said the Mexican man illegally was working in the United States. |

Flames and Fires : Breckenridge houses damaged in Monday morning fire

Two nearby houses in Breckenridge were damaged in an early morning fire on Monday. The Chillicothe Fire Department, on a mutual aid request, assisted Breckenridge firefighters at the scene of the fires at 7th and Wisconsin before daybreak on New Year's Eve. |

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs had ten days to stew over their first loss of the season, a one-point defeat against Marceline. On Friday night, the Lady Bulldogs took their frustrations out on the Lady Warriors of Warrenton High School, improving to 9-1 with a decisive 61-27 victory at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton. |

Health Advisories : Portion of Coleman Street, in Princeton, under a boil advisory

A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued at Princeton for a portion of Coleman Street. The advisory, for drinking and cooking water is from 900 Coleman Street and SOUTHWARD. The advisory is until further notice. Water in that area was shut off to repair a leaking fire hydrant. |

A Harrison County case charging an Eagleville woman in the death of her eight-month old daughter has been transferred to Grundy County on a change of venue. Twenty-three year old Nicole Lister of Eagleville is charged with second degree murder and child abuse, relating to incidents occurring in September. |
