Accidents : Head-on collision west of Polo injures five, all in serious condition

Five people received what the Highway Patrol called SERIOUS injuries in the head-on collision of a sport utility vehicle and a car west of Polo on Saturday afternoon. The driver of the SUV, 49-year old Kenneth Pierson of Plattsburg, was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

News : Motorcycle accident injures Chillicothe boy

A young Chillicothe boy was injured when, according to the Highway Patrol, the motorcycle he was driving went out of control in a mud hole on private property and the youth was thrown off. Injuries were described as MODERATE for seven year-old Lane Sampsel of Chillicothe. He was taken by ambulance to Hedrick Medical Center.

News : Missing Brookfield man found safe in western Illinois

A missing 78-year old Brookfield man was located safe around 12 noon on Sunday in Hartford, Illinois, which is just north of St. Louis. Hartford Police said Francis Moseley stopped at a gas station, went inside the building, told people he was lost, and asked for directions. A police spokesman said Moseley seemed a little disoriented. Although people at the gas station did not know Moseley was missing, police were contacted.

Student enrollment for the fall semester is down slightly at North Central Missouri College of Trenton; but it is still up considerably when compared to six years ago. Community college enrollment across Missouri also is down a bit but a sizeable increase is noted for the past six years overall.

Sports : TMS Bulldogs shutout Princeton, 20-0

The Trenton Middle School Bulldogs played host to the Princeton Tigers Thursday at CF Russell Stadium. After a scoreless first quarter, QB Spencer Harris ignited the Bulldog offense and the crowd with a 49 yard gain to the Tiger 2 yard line. He finished the drive on the next play and the Bulldogs led 6-0 with 3:43 remaining in the half.

People with any type of job are being asked to contact a Chillicothe FFA member, or one of the advisors at the Litton Agriculture Campus. Teams will be organized to do the work. The Chillicothe High School class averaging the most money raised, per member, will have its barnwarming candidates crowned king and queen.

Fires : Fire destroys Spickard home

A fire on Sunday afternoon destroyed a Spickard residence. Fire Department Training Officer Jesse Richman said nothing of value was saved from the Shanna Tranthan family residence at 505 Jewell. The five member family was not home at the time of the blaze, believed to have been caused by an electrical issue. Firefighters were on the scene about 3 1/2 hours.

Trenton traveled to Bethany on Thursday night in search of their 20th win of the season. The Lady Bulldogs would jump out to a quick lead in the first inning when Maddie Hooyman led the game off with a single and then stole second. Scotlin Hurley drove home Hooyman with a double to left, advancing to third on a South Harrison error. Avery Whitaker would follow with a single and both Bulldogs would score on a South Harrison throwing error; leaving THS up 3-0 after one inning.

Although still subject to 'final review', fall enrollment appears to be down slightly at North Central Missouri College in Trenton. However, enrollment is still up considerably when compared to five years ago (2007). Figures on student enrollment were provided by college officials this week, with President Neil Nuttall noting that preliminary indicators are showing a 'level' enrollment overall.

The Trenton High School girls tennis team whipped up on Carrollton on Monday night, with the varsity winning all nine matches played against the Lady Trojans, with six of those matches claimed in a 8-love sweep.
