A two-vehicle accident early Sunday morning on Highway 136, one mile west of Wayland, resulted in minor injuries for one driver.

At approximately 12:50 a.m., a 2009 Ford Escape, driven by Kaliegh J. Hale, 29, of Keokuk, Iowa, was involved in a collision when an unidentified vehicle swerved to avoid a deer, causing a chain reaction.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the unidentified vehicle was traveling westbound when it attempted to dodge a deer on the highway. The Ford Escape, heading eastbound, then swerved to avoid the unidentified vehicle. This maneuver led to the Ford Escape veering off the right side of the road and overturning.

Hale, who was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident, sustained minor injuries. She was transported by Clark County Ambulance to a hospital in Fort Madison, Iowa, for treatment. The Ford Escape sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene by Brewer’s & Sons Wrecker Service of Kahoka.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene.
