Big rig crash on Highway 156 near La Plata injures driver

A single-vehicle accident occurred on July 16, 2024, at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Highway 156, five miles east of La Plata. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that Jeffrey L. Miller, 64, of Shelbyville, was driving a 2022 Freightliner westbound when the accident took place.

The Freightliner veered off the right side of the roadway. After overcorrecting, the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, overturned, and struck a fence. The crash resulted in total damage to the vehicle, which was towed by Lakeside Towing.

Jeffrey L. Miller sustained moderate injuries despite wearing a seat belt. He was transported by Macon County Ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville for treatment.

The incident was attended by Lieutenant Ream, Corporal Mason, Trooper Hinshaw, the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, the Adair County Fire Department, and the Macon County Fire Department.
